Twin brothers Bandile and Banele Mbere run Major League DJz out of Johannesburg, and their Balcony Mix Africa series — open-air amapiano sets shot on rooftops and clifftops — is what carried the genre past South Africa's borders after it started in 2020. They were the first amapiano act to play Coachella. As producers they cut "Amanikiniki" with Kamo Mphela and Bontle Smith, and "Koo Koo Fun" with Tiwa Savage and DJ Maphorisa; both still turn up in other DJs' sets alongside their own log-drum-heavy, afro house-leaning selections.
